Billy Gilmour has named Mason Mount as his favourite midfield partner at Chelsea and said they both “understand each other’s game”.
The 19-year-old is arguably in an excellent environment to grow as a midfielder at Chelsea.
He is effectively surrounded by experienced midfielders, the likes of N’Golo Kante, Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic, from whom he can learn a lot.
Interestingly, though, Gilmour sees fellow young midfielder Mount as his ideal midfielder partner.

“I’d say Mason Mount,” the teenager told Chelsea’s official YouTube channel when asked to pick out one teammate he loves to play alongside the most.
“[He] works hard, technically really good, and we both understand each other’s game
“So I like playing alongside Mase.”
But in terms of performance, Gilmour considers Ross Barkley’s goalscoring display in the 2-0 win over Liverpool last season as the best he has played alongside.
“Against Liverpool, Ross Barkley played really well — and against Everton, he also played really well,” he explained.
“On the pitch, I’d say Ross.”

Gilmour and Mount have trained and played together for quite some time since their academy days, therefore they unsurprisingly know each other’s game well.
They eventually played as a midfield pair for the first time in the 3-1 win over Luton Town last month.
Unfortunately, Gilmour has yet to make any matchday squad since Frank Lampard’s departure, with Thomas Tuchel opting for more experienced Jorginho and kovacic.
Gilmour decided to stay at Chelsea despite reported talks about potential January loan moves, however.
It suggests that he believes he can fight for a place under the new manager.
