Glenn Hoddle was clearly entertained by Kai Havertz’s early celebration of his winning goal in Chelsea’s 1-0 win over Newcastle United on Sunday.
The most in-form Chelsea attacker has done it again. His sixth goal in the last seven games.
It took excellent spatial awareness to time his run, an impeccable technique to control the ball in such small space, and goalscoring instinct to put it past the goalkeeper, but Havertz, as he often does, made it look very simple.
Hoddle, who was clearly impressed, described it as a training ground finish.
“The weight of the pass is beautiful, but the finish…” the former Chelsea boss said in awe of Havertz’s goal during Premier League Production’s post-match coverage (via Optus Sport).
“To just drag it down with your toes and quickly tap it past the keeper — that’s like finishing in training when you’re sort of semi messing around at the end of training
“That’s how cool and calm he was. That’s in the finer form he’s in at the moment.”

It does not end there, however, as Hoddle also loved how the Germany international began celebrating even before the ball hit the back of the net.
“I like looking at these little things,” he explained.
“As he hit it, he was not even looking at it. He’s looking at the crowd to celebrate.
“He knows what he’s done. That was sublime.
“He’s looking away and going ‘Done my bit.'”

Havertz has clearly become more and more confident, largely thanks to his goalscoring form, and it can only benefit Chelsea as a team.
The Blues needed a reliable goalscorer, particularly amid Ben Chilwell and Reece James’ injury problems which clearly hinder their fluidity in the final third, and the young German stepped up.
