Glenn Hoddle believes Timo Werner will prove to be the most important summer signing for Chelsea at the end of the season.
It is fair to say that most Chelsea fans will have a hard time picking their best summer signing.
Edouard Mendy, Thiago Silva and Ben Chilwell have significantly improved the team defensively, particularly considering the team’s defensive record last season.
At the other end of the pitch, Werner, Hakim Ziyech and Kai Havertz have often been the difference-makers, coming up with magical moments.
Former Blues player and manager Hoddle, however, picks out Werner as Chelsea’s best summer transfer.

“It is a tough one,” he told the Evening Standard when asked to pick Chelsea’s most important addition.
“Edouard Mendy could be very important, but by the end of the season I think we will look back and think Timo Werner will be the one.
“He can play down the middle, he can play left and he could have had three or four goals against Leeds on Saturday.

“Hakim Ziyech is a very good player.
“There will be games where he will be outstanding and I think spells maybe where we will not see him.”
Hoddle argued that, while Havertz is a very good player, he still expects more to come from the midfielder.

“But I would go for Werner, I think we will look back and think he was a very good buy,” he added.
Werner has not missed any Premier League game so far this season, which illustrates the trust Lampard has in the striker.
He has also been Chelsea’s most prolific goal-scorer in all competitions, with eight goals to date.
