Chelsea supporters were singing the praises of Reece James after he put in a dominant display against Tottenham Hotspur yesterday.

Thomas Tuchel took a giant step forward by overcoming their London rivals by one goal.

Jorginho’s penalty was eventually the difference between the two sides but Chelsea certainly deserved their victory.

James was making his first start under Thomas Tuchel but he slotted in comfortably into the new system.

The 21-year-old had struggled against Leicester City in what was Frank Lampard’s last Premier League but he returned with flying colours last night.

Some Chelsea fans were eager to praise James’ reinstatement to the starting line-up.

Others wanted to complement his link up with fellow England international Callum Hudson-Odoi down the right flank.

Hudson-Odoi had originally taken the wing-back position that many believed James would fulfil under Tuchel. The Chelsea manager moved the former further forward and allowed the pair to partner up instead.

And there were those who simply couldn’t get enough of James’ very unique skill.

Aside from his crimson chest, the talented defender also showed a broad range of passing abilities that was typified by his first half statistics at Spurs.

Tuchel will probably tinker his team again for Chelsea’s next fixture but James has certainly given him some food for thought.

And James is back! Brilliant from the young man on what was a massive match for him and Chelsea.

If Tuchel can build that right hand side around for James and Hudson-Odoi he’s hit the jackpot.
