Ben Jacobs has claimed that Jorginho is now eager to remain at Chelsea, having previously considered leaving the club.

Speaking on the ChelseaFC365 podcast, Jacobs declared that the midfielder had recently developed stronger feelings about staying at Stamford Bridge.

Jorginho has been the subject of heavy transfer talk for some time now.

His contract expires in June, with many suggesting he could walk away as a free agent.

Conversations about the Italian’s future date back to the summer window and beyond.

Jorginho thinking about Chelsea contract

At 30-years of age and arguably past his peak, it wouldn’t shock many if Chelsea decided not to renew Jorginho’s deal.

It would slash a decent chunk off the payroll, plus may allow another, younger midfielder to take his place in Graham Potter’s squad.

However, Jacobs has explained that the Italy international might actually be edging towards a new deal, rather than away from one.

“With Jorginho, it’s a more formative process. The contract talks haven’t really begun in any significant or formal way. I fully expect Chelsea to offer a competitive new deal, it’s just not certain whether he’ll sign one,” he said.

“The good news is that Jorginho now, compared to the Jorginho at the beginning of the window, has a different mindset.

“He feels still integral and wanted and he likes the man management of Potter and he believes Chelsea are going to take great strides forward.

“So, he can see the project more than most, and he believes that the club see him as part of it.”

Pressure on Potter

Potter’s project is still very much in the experimental phase, following a positive honeymoon period.

After avoiding defeat in his first nine games in charge, the new Chelsea boss has since won just one of the last five.

A huge push will be required from the team if they are to make anything from a season that offered so much promise.

The Blues restart their Premier League campaign against Bournemouth on the 27th of December.

Fail to achieve victory, and Jorginho may want to reconsider his changed stance on staying put in South West London.
