TalkSPORT pundit Andy Townsend has now claimed that Chelsea would not even get close to winning the league even with Kylian Mbappe and Jude Bellingham.
He told the radio station that the Blues would need three players at that standard to get close to challenging the likes of Manchester City in the near future.
A lot was made of Chelsea’s defeat at the weekend to Brentford, as they threatened to fall back into habits from last season.

On the whole though, performances have been a lot more positive so far this season than the prior campaign even if the points haven’t flowed yet.
With that said, just watching City’s demolition of Manchester United the day later made it clear exactly where the standard is right now.
Townsend claimed that even with two of the best players in world football right now, Chelsea would not be seen at that level.
Chelsea with Mbappe and Bellingham
He said: “Not unless they go and sign Mbappe and like three at that level [can Chelsea win the league] because they are acquiring some very good, young players. There is never any guarantees on young players stepping up and being absolutely able to make the difference.
“Do you know if Chelsea had Mbappe and Bellingham in this current team, would have win the league? Of course they wouldn’t, no chance. Listen, I’ve seen Chelsea a fair bit this season, and I saw them against Arsenal and they played very well but unfortunately didn’t win the game, bit unlucky not to have won that game.
“At the weekend against Brentford, my goodness me, they could still be there now and still wouldn’t have had a shot, let alone score.”
Despite breaking their transfer record for Moises Caicedo over the summer, it seems as if more money will be required for them to return to where they think they belong.
