Chelsea legend John Terry says he would have joined Frank Lampard’s coaching team at Stamford Bridge if he had been asked to.
Frank Lampard has had two separate spells in charge of Chelsea and played alongside John Terry for years, with the former defender now a qualified coach himself.
However, speaking on The Obi One Podcast, Terry says he never got the call from his former team-mate but appreciates the fact that he has his own backroom staff.

While Terry never got to coach Chelsea’s first team, he was part of Dean Smith’s set-up at both Aston Villa and Leicester City.
John Terry wanted Chelsea return
Terry, who has also discussed his regret over not doing more for Kevin De Bruyne and Mohamed Salah when they were at Stamford Bridge, says he would have “100%” joined Lampard’s team if he had got the call.
“I didn’t take a phone call. Would I have? 100%,” the former Chelsea captain said on The Obi One Podcast. “Did I think at the bottom or back of my mind think I could be part of that set-up? Yeah, I did actually and got quite excited by it.
“But I didn’t have the conversation with Frank. Listen, he has his team as well so I fully understand that.”
John Terry would not have made much difference in Frank Lampard’s second spell
Lampard’s most recent spell as Chelsea manager came last season, a season everyone associated with the club will want to forget.
Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter were both sacked before the England legend’s arrival and the Blues went on to finish 12th in the Premier League.

It was a terrible campaign for Chelsea and Lampard and bringing Terry on board probably would not have made much difference.
Of course, given his connection to the club and based on his recent words, the 42-year-old would have jumped at the opportunity to be part of Lampard’s backroom team during either of his spells in charge at Stamford Bridge. But it was just not meant to be.
Mauricio Pochettino has since taken the reins, but the Argentine is not really faring any better right now, with Chelsea still really struggling in the Premier League.
