Graeme Souness gives verdict on Chelsea's expected major signing
Graeme Souness has admitted that he is a big fan Romelu Lukaku as he had his say on the striker’s reported imminent move to Chelsea.
According to Italian transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio, the 28-year-old is set for a medical on Monday after Chelsea and Inter Milan reached an agreement over a €115m (£97.5m) for the striker on Saturday.
Chelsea legend Didier Drogba has even “confirmed” the deal as he sent a welcome message to Lukaku on social media.
Speaking about Lukaku’s expected Chelsea return, Souness has expressed his admiration for the striker.
“I am an enormous fan of him,” the former Scotland international told The Times.
“I used to say he was the centre forward that Premier League centre halves would least like to play against because of his speed and strength.
“He appears to have a different focus to his game from going to Italy.
“Whether that is down to losing weight and a different training regime, I do not know, but he appears a more energised player.”
Considering that Souness is quite difficult to impress, and his admiration speaks volumes about Lukaku’s ability as a player.
The consensus is that Chelsea need a consistent goalscorer to really challenge for the Premier League title, and they might have one in their squad in a few days.
According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, there is even a possibility that Lukaku might even be available for Wednesday’s UEFA Super Cup clash with Villarreal.
