Former Chelsea manager Graham Potter has opened up on the deep emotional toll of his Stamford Bridge and West Ham sackings that have shaped his career.
Graham Potter’s time at Chelsea proved to be an absolute disaster. Appointed in September 2022 on an expensive five-year contract, the former Brighton manager struggled immensely under the weight of heavy expectation and a rapidly expanding, disjointed squad.
Despite an initial unbeaten run, Potter’s tactical experimentation failed to yield results, dragging the Blues into a dismal mid-table slump. After managing just 12 wins from 31 games and facing heavy backlash from a frustrated Stamford Bridge crowd, he was sacked after only seven months in charge.
Following that West London failure, Potter suffered another bruising setback when he was sacked by West Ham United in September 2025 after a similarly difficult eight-month spell.
However, he has completely rebuilt his reputation on the international stage, guiding the Sweden national team to the 2026 World Cup.

Graham Potter opens up on his Premier League failure
Ahead of the 2026 World Cup starting, Graham Potter has been looking back at his time in the Premier League with West Ham and Chelsea (as per BBC).
“It hurt. They are painful experiences.
“I have lived failure. I’ve had quite a bit of success too. That’s what life is. You have to try to put things into perspective, take the feedback from the people who are important to you and relevant – those who can help you improve.
“In the end you have to find some way of being grateful for it but, when you’re going through it, it isn’t easy. You have to deal with the failure, but you become a better person for it, that’s for sure.
“On the flip side, I will never forget that night in Stockholm. It was the best night of my career. While there are dark moments that you have to experience, and they’re not very nice, there are also moments you simply cannot describe.”
