Harry Redknapp has given a glowing nine-word verdict on Chelsea after watching them beat his former club Tottenham on the weekend.
Chelsea delivered an emphatic performance in the second half to win 3-0 away at Spurs. Thomas Tuchel’s side have followed that up in midweek by beating Aston Villa on penalties in the Carabao Cup third round.
The Blues defeated London rivals Spurs by scoring three unanswered goals in the second half, turning on the style after the break and proving too much for their opponents.
They now possess the kind of squad depth that makes them genuine league title contenders in some people’s eyes.
Ex-Premier League manager Redknapp has admitted he’s very impressed by Chelsea.
“Second half, Chelsea completely overran them. Chelsea look strong,” Redknapp said.
Likewise, QPR forward and guest pundit Charlie Austin has been on talkSPORT raving about Chelsea.
“The instant impact he’s had, in that short space of time, has been phenomenal,” Austin told said.
Chelsea finished 19 points behind Manchester City last season, who were the runaway league champions in England.
However, the Blues beat them in the Champions League final to claim European glory, and it looks like the gap between the two clubs has shrunk drastically.
Chelsea, under Tuchel, have won the last three consecutive meetings against Man City. This makes for very interesting reading ahead of a game between the two teams this Saturday at Stamford Bridge in the league.
It’s an opportunity for either side to lay down a real title marker.
Tuchel has had Pep Guardiola’s number in recent meetings, but they are two top-class managers who will be analysing the finest of details before the weekend showdown.
