Ian Wright admitted he was aware of Romelu Lukaku’s move back to Chelsea way ahead of his official unveiling.
Speaking on the Wrighty’s House podcast, the former Arsenal attacker explained how he and Lukaku had been in conversation for some time.
Chelsea dropped the curtain on the Belgian’s seismic return last week, with plenty of social media hype to go along with it.
It became clear that the Blues wanted to re-sign the striker earlier this summer, as they made recruiting a new no.9 their top priority.
After efforts to land Erling Haaland hit a snag, Lukaku swiftly became the centre of attention.
Wright was in the know
From the outside, it appeared the deal was dragging slightly, with Inter Milan knocking back a few attempts from the Stamford Bridge hierarchy.
However, Wright revealed that he knew all along that the 28-year-old was going to be featuring for Chelsea this season.

He said: “Since Romelu has been linked, when it was happening, obviously for me it was really horrible to be on that side of it because Romelu was talking to me on a consistent basis.
“Just like when he was getting ready to go Inter Milan.
“I know that is happening, he’s signed, but you have to keep quiet.”
With Chelsea supporters’ worries now at ease, they can look forward to what should be an epic campaign for their team.
Especially because of Lukaku’s addition to what is already a frightening front line.

There is every chance the free-scoring forward could make his second Blues debut against Arsenal this Sunday.
Thomas Tuchel has managed to get him into training well ahead of the London derby on the weekend.
Maybe Wrighty will be wishing Lukaku had stayed secret for just a little while longer.
