Napoli striker Victor Osimhen is a player who’s a popular topic of discussion in the transfer rumour mill.

In particular, Chelsea are one of the top clubs frequently linked with the Serie A frontman.

Victor Osimhen, who’s got 72 goals in 125 Napoli appearances, has been one of the elite centre-forwards in European football during recent years. So, could we end up seeing him in the Premier League very soon?

CaughtOffside reported last month that Chelsea are prepared to go all out to try to sign Napoli star Osimhen in this upcoming summer transfer window.

Also, journalist Ben Jacobs claimed this week via his column for Si Phillips Talks Chelsea that Chelsea can afford Osimhen.

Gary Lineker hails Victor Osimhen

Gary Lineker has mentioned Napoli’s powerful attacker when discussing the sport’s best players in the air.

Speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast, Lineker said: “Is there any players you played with who weren’t necessarily the biggest but were exceptional headers of the ball? I would say me! He mentions Diogo Jota, which was a good shout.

“…Cristiano Ronaldo could leap, couldn’t he? He still can! Have you seen Osimhen? I know he is big anyway, but he can spring.”

In fairness, three of Osimhen’s 13 goals so far this season have been headers.

As for last year, the striker scored a remarkable nine of his 31 Napoli goals with his head.

The 6ft 1in powerhouse has the size, athleticism and spring that makes him such a success in aerial battles.

When we look back to some of Chelsea’s most successful centre-forwards in players such as Didier Drogba and Diego Costa, they were dominant physical forces that scored a lot of headers.

We’d certainly love the Blues to bring in a striker with that kind of profile next season because it’s something lacking in the current squad at the Bridge right now.

On paper, we think Osimhen looks tailor-made to come over to England and be an immediate success in the Premier League.
