‘He could be a star’: Graeme Souness thinks 24-year-old could be amazing after leaving Chelsea this summer

Liverpool legend Graeme Souness has put former Chelsea star Mason Mount in his top 10 Premier League signings this summer.

The Blues sold Mason Mount to Manchester United in July, and Souness is now tipping him to become a star at Old Trafford.

In his Daily Mail column, where he listed his 10 best signings in the top flight this summer, the former Scotland player said: “I have always liked Mount, there is nothing to dislike about him. He has great technique and works his socks off. He is also leaving a big club to join, arguably, the biggest club.

“But he has shown he can handle the expectation of playing for Chelsea and England and, if he takes to his new surroundings at Old Trafford, he could be a star.”

Mount is not the only player to have left Chelsea for one of their rivals during this transfer window. They have also let Kai Havertz and Mateo Kovacic join Arsenal and Manchester City respectively.

Chelsea could really do with Mason Mount right now

Chelsea find themselves in a position where they probably need a player like Mount.

They are lacking options in the middle of the park following his departure and the exit of others, while they also look a bit light in the position just behind the striker.

Christopher Nkunku looked to have had the role locked down, especially after impressing in pre-season, but the Frenchman is now injured and will be absent for some time.

The No.10 role is one Mount can also play, so had the 24-year-old still been at the club, you would have expected him to start against Liverpool on Sunday.

His love story with Chelsea is obviously done now, though, and the Blues have to move on.

Hopefully, Mauricio Pochettino is allowed to bring in another attacker before the transfer window closes. Following Nkunku’s injury, another offensive addition may be necessary in order for the club to have a successful season.
