‘He is a doubt’: Journalist says ‘world-class’ Chelsea player is now likely to miss Arsenal clash

Chelsea defender Reece James is now unlikely to play against Arsenal on Saturday.

According to journalist Nathan Gissing, Reece James recently sustained an injury in training and “he is a doubt” for the upcoming London derby at Stamford Bridge.

The right-back had been recovering from an injury he picked up earlier in the season and there was hope that he would be ready for the Arsenal game.

Earlier this month, the Evening Standard reported that James had recovered from the initial hamstring problem he was dealing with.

However, it now appears that he has suffered a setback in a blow to Mauricio Pochettino.

Chelsea and James will both be frustrated with this latest development. The 23-year-old will obviously be desperate to play and is a brilliant footballer who Pochettino will want available.

“Reece is a world-class player,” his former manager Graham Potter was quoted as saying by Sky Sports last year.

The Arsenal match, though, is now likely to be another fixture where Pochettino is going to be without his captain.

Malo Gusto is at least back from suspension, so that is one player who could start at right-back on the day.

There is also Marc Cucurella, who has been playing in that position recently despite being a left-back.

But given that James is club captain and brings such a threat going forward, Pochettino would have wanted the England international for the London derby against Arteta’s side. The Argentine will now be praying that this latest injury is just a minor one.
