Chris Sutton thinks Chelsea’s Mason Mount struggled in the England draw against the United States.

England’s World Cup tournament hit a minor bump yesterday, recording a 0-0 draw against the United States.

Gareth Southgate’s side couldn’t find their shooting boots last night, which came just days after they knocked Iran for six.

However, the Three Lions still have an opportunity to top Group B when they face Wales next Tuesday.

Mount struggled against United States

Pundit Chris Sutton was critical of Chelsea’s No.19 after his individual contribution for his country.

“Mount is tidy in possession but he’s tenacious out of it, too. That’s why Southgate starts him so often in his engine room. But he struggled to have any sort of impact here, other than one snap-shot which was saved by Matt Turner shortly before the break,” Sutton told the Daily Mail.

Also, BBC pundit Rob Green criticised Mount’s efforts last night.

In fairness, Mount still ran hard off the ball for England and did have one decent effort on goal saved.

However, the England side didn’t click into gear as an attacking force last night.

For Southgate, he decided to stick with the same XI that beat Iran days earlier. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see him mix it up with a couple of alterations for the Wales game, though.

It was the kind of display from Mount that Chelsea fans have watched a lot from him this season.

He’s obviously struggling with his final ball right now and isn’t in top form, but he definitely looked busy and full of running.

The argument for England supporters is that there’s so much talent on the bench that perhaps Southgate could have injected some fresh attacking talent sooner than he did against the Untied States.
