Jamie Carragher spotted an interesting moment between Raheem Sterling and Emerson Palmieri as Chelsea took on West Ham at the London Stadium earlier today.
The 45-year-old noticed the coming together while speaking on commentary duty for Sky Sports alongside Peter Drury.
So, what happened between Raheem Sterling and Emerson Palmieri? Let’s take a look…
What’s the story?
Well, the Italy international made 71 appearances for Chelsea before departing Stamford Bridge for West Ham in August 2022.
However, there was not a lot of love on show from Emerson for his old side.
Midway through the opening 45 minutes, the 29-year-old clattered into Sterling while Chelsea were going forward.
The Chelsea No.7 then attempted to get up and rejoin the attack, but accidentally charged into Emerson, which provoked an aggressive response from the West Ham No.33 – he felt Sterling was trying to get one back on him.

After the incident occurred, Carragher said: “That’s a strong challenge from Emerson initially, Raheem then tries to get up.
“I’m not sure what Raheem’s done there, I actually think he tries to go rather than get back at Emerson. He’s just been completely taken out by the left-back. That’s the closest we’ve seen Emerson get to Sterling.”
Fortunately, tempers settled before they flared, and neither player received any punishment for their reactions – Emerson was, however, rightly booked for the initial challenge.
Raheem Sterling was tremendous as Chelsea faced West Ham
The 28-year-old has struggled since arriving at Chelsea, although he was back to his scintillating best in today’s derby at the London Stadium.
As Carragher alluded to, Emerson simply could not get close to Sterling in east London today.

The Chelsea No.7 proved to be a real thorn in West Ham’s side throughout, and his link up play with Nicolas Jackson was also on a telepathic level.
Hopefully, this can be the start of a new chapter for Sterling at Stamford Bridge, as he was undoubtedly one of the best forwards in England before leaving Manchester City for Chelsea.
