Thierry Henry has told CBS Sports that Chelsea’s Kai Havertz reminds him of former Arsenal and Manchester United striker Robin van Persie.

The German enjoyed arguably his best performance in a Chelsea shirt last night as the Premier League side picked up a huge win in the Champions League.

They overturned a 1-0 first-leg deficit against Borussia Dortmund to book their place in the quarter-finals of the competition.

Havertz occupied the number nine role again last night, with the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and David Datro Fofana not available for selection.

Despite taking plenty of stick in recent weeks for his performances in the position, the 23-year-old found the net from the spot in what proved to be the decisive goal in the tie.

Henry was full of praise for the Germany international after his display last night, even giving comparisons to his former teammate Van Persie.

He said: “I thought he was good. On the first goal, you could see he held the ball ever so well. He reminds me sometimes a little of Robin [Van Persie] back to goal. Van Persie was very good with his left foot, the touch was always immaculate to try and bring people along.

“This is why out of the guys who used to be wingers or number 10s, he plays as a nine because with his back to goal he can hold the ball well. He needs to make sure he can transform that into more goals, because people can play off him.”

Chelsea fans will be hopeful that last night’s performance is more of what’s to come in the position for Havertz, as they keep their season’s hopes alive by moving to the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
