‘He was hopeless’: Chris Sutton claims 23-year-old Chelsea player was absolutely awful in his last appearance

Chris Sutton thinks that Chelsea’s Kai Havertz was “hopeless” in his last appearance against Manchester City.

Havertz, 23, is a versatile attacker that’s currently trying to fill Chelsea’s void in the No.9 position.

Unfortunately, the Germany international is struggling for form, just like so many of his teammates at Stamford Bridge.

Havertz’s latest struggle came in Sunday’s 4-0 defeat to Man City in the FA Cup third round, where he was substituted off at half time.

He conceded a penalty for a handball in the penalty box. Also, the forward was anonymous as an attacking threat in the opening 45 minutes.

Kai Havertz was hopeless

BBC pundit Sutton has heavily criticised Havertz after his weekend performance. He’s not been too kind on 29-year-old Blues winger Hakim Ziyech, too.

“Havertz was hopeless yesterday. Ziyech had a really good World Cup but can’t find his form,” Sutton told the BBC’s Monday Night Club.

It was certainly a game to forget for so many of Chelsea’s players in the FA Cup, but they need to be ready to go again on Thursday night against Fulham.

With so many key players missing through injury, Graham Potter needs his available stars to really step up.

Havertz is one of so many Chelsea players not fulfilling their potential right now, so it’s certainly not a case of singling him out above others.

Frank Lebouef vented his frustration towards each of Havertz, Mason Mount and Jorginho after the 4-0 humbling at Man City.
