Thomas Tuchel was sacked by Chelsea in 2022 but not before warning Todd Boehly about the troubles the club would face.
The summer of that year, Chelsea lost Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen on free transfers, while other players’ contracts were starting to run down, and Daily Mail journalist Ian Ladyman has recalled a conversation Tuchel had with the media where he sent a warning to Todd Boehly and the club about what was to come.
Ladyman was speaking on It’s All Kicking Off!
It has been downhill for Chelsea since Tuchel’s sacking, with the Blues finishing 12th last season and missing out on Champions League football.
And things have not improved too much this term. Mauricio Pochettino has only been able to take the club a few positions higher.
Thomas Tuchel warned Chelsea about their downfall
Tuchel predicted Chelsea’s decline after watching so many of the club’s players run down their contracts.
Speaking about the current Bayern Munich boss, Ladyman said: “I have noticed Thomas Tuchel in the last couple of days, a manager I have huge regard for, has started to make a couple of comments suggesting he may not be totally happy over there. If I was Jim Ratcliffe, the new part owner at Old Trafford, I would be all over that like a cheap suit.
“When his Chelsea team lost the FA Cup final. I stood in the corridor with other journalists talking to him and he warned Chelsea about what was coming because he had a lot of players out of contract. He warned Chelsea that the turnaround or the churn in that squad in that summer was going to be too much and it was too much. He was right and he was out the door by that September.”

Chelsea learning their lesson
The Blues do not have too many contract problems these days and that is unlikely to change in the future. They have given their new signings really long deals.
Chelsea are now selling players who have entered the final year of their contract as well, getting rid of Mason Mount and Mateo Kovacic last summer.
Conor Gallagher could face a similar fate as well. The midfielder will enter the last 12 months of his deal at the end of the season, though his team-mates do not want him to be sold.
