Don Hutchison backed Romelu Lukaku to overcome his present problems and hit the ground running again for Chelsea.

Speaking on ESPN, Hutchison had no doubts that a fully fit Lukaku would equate to the scoring form he produced at the start of the season.

It does feel like a lifetime ago since the 28-year-old was grabbing goals for fun following the club-record move back to Stamford Bridge over the summer.

After converting four times in his first four matches, the striker hasn’t rippled the net since mid-September.

Granted, the Belgian international did miss seven matches because of an ankle injury.

In the past three fixtures, Lukaku has only featured as a substitute, with still no goals to show for his recovery.

Romelu will be all right

Typically, because of this barren spell, questions have begun to be thrown in Lukaku’s direction, quizzing whether the centre-forward really is a good fit for Chelsea

Queries that were instantly shut down by Hutchison.

“Yeah, he will be fine. He will be absolutely fine,” said the Everton midfielder.

“He’s got to get himself up to speed but just because he’s been injured and hasn’t scored in a couple of games everyone’s jumping on the back of him all of a sudden.

“He was like top scorer in Serie A last season. He will be absolutely fine.”

Big blue turnaround needed

Lukaku did in fact finish second behind Cristiano Ronaldo in the Italian scoring charts last term, but was voted the league’s MVP for his contributions towards Inter Milan’s title victory.

The likelihood of Chelsea’s number nine claiming the Premier League’s equivalent accolade is very slim right now.

However, surely all that really matters to Thomas Tuchel will be the hurried improvement of his main man.

Especially in a vital period of the campaign, where fixtures are coming at the Blues from all angles.

Not to mention the fact Tuchel’s team now have to overcome the task of reclaiming their top spot off Manchester City, following their defeat to West Ham United last Saturday.
