Paul Merson hasn’t given Chelsea forward Mason Mount much hope of starting England’s World Cup quarter final versus France.
Writing for Sportskeeda, Merson anticipated Gareth Southgate to hardly tinker with his side for Saturday’s showdown from the 3-0 victory over Senegal.
If Southgate does keep the same or a similar XI that won in the previous round, Mount will once again be on the bench.
The 23-year-old has been a substitute for the last two matches, having started the opening pair of fixtures in Qatar.
He excelled against Iran, but was more subdued in the 0-0 draw with USA.
His international manager looked towards other personnel for the Wales encounter, a decision that ultimately paid off.

Marcus Rashford and Phil Foden joined the attack and both scored the goals that delivered the killer 3-0 blow to the Welsh.
Foden retained his spot in the 11 for the knockout tie against Senegal, and once again proved to be a worthy asset by providing two assists.
Mount could only watch on from the side lines as his fellow young lion dazzled on the grandest footballing stage.
It may just be the same scenario for the Stamford Bridge star tomorrow evening.
“I don’t think Mason Mount will start this game. He’s a top player, but England won’t make too many changes,” predicted Merson.
“Gareth Southgate likes continuity, and I don’t think he’ll switch to a three-man defense for this game. “
After all, why fix what isn’t broke?

Of course, Southgate might surprise us all and reintroduce Mount to the starting line-up.
But even though the coach and player have a great mutual respect, even this would be taking the trust too far.
Foden and Bukayo Saka have earned the right to face France, whilst Jordan Henderson’s addition in midfield has been a welcomed one.
The major concern is the fitness of Declan Rice, who is currently suffering with an illness.
Mount’s eyes might light up at the thought of an opening in the team, just not at the expensive of his friend.
However, Kalvin Phillips is the more likely to replace Rice as the deepest midfielder.
