Mason Mount has raved about the quality that Chelsea teammate Romelu Lukaku has, explaining he’s a “big plus” for them when he’s in this kind of form.

Lukaku, 28, has scored in back-to-back Premier League games inside the last week to show signs of getting back to his best.

The left-footed centre-forward appears to be rediscovering his golden touch, which is superb news for a Blues XI that are crying out for his goals in the top end of the pitch.

Unfortunately, the Belgian frontman was in the spotlight for the wrong reasons yesterday. He’s upset a bunch of the club’s fanbase after comments surfaced from earlier in December where he admitted he’s “not very happy” with his current situation at Stamford Bridge. He noted a formation under manager Thomas Tuchel as a frustration of his and it’s going to be intriguing to see how it plays out in the coming days.

Regardless, Lukaku’s been in preparation ahead of this Sunday’s league showdown against Liverpool.

Fellow Chelsea attacker Mount has praised his importance right now to the side. He claims it makes his and everyone’s job a lot easier when Lukaku starts.

“Having Rom back is a big plus for us. You can see how good he is and the impact he has. He’s important, we know what he brings to the team. He’s a top player and a top guy, so it’s a big boost for us,” Mount said.

“He’s a big target man and he holds the ball up. He makes it so easy for us to work off him and run off him. He’s so dominant and he’s scoring, which is what we want from him. Hopefully that continues because there’s obviously a massive game coming up next.”

Chelsea can’t lose focus for Sunday

Yes, there is a lot of attention right now on the club because of Lukaku’s comments.

Tuchel needs to keep his group focused on this weekend, though.

The Blues are eight points behind leaders Manchester City in the Premier League table and they may be able to kiss goodbye to any kind of title bid if they lose at Stamford Bridge against Liverpool on Sunday.

Chelsea’s 1-1 draw against Brighton in midweek was another kick in the teeth during a difficult run of results.

However, opponents Liverpool were beaten away to Leicester City and are equally under as much pressure to win at the Bridge.
