Marcos Alonso has been nominated for Premier League Player of the Month – and some Chelsea fans on Twitter have hailed the Thursday announcement about their star.
The Blues wing-back has been nominated for August’s Player of the Month after an excellent start to the new domestic season.
Firstly, he kickstarted with a brilliant free-kick goal in the win over Crystal Palace. The 30-year-old defender has followed that up with back-to-back impressive displays against Arsenal and Liverpool.
Similarly, Blues boss Thomas Tuchel has been nominated for Premier League Manager of the Month.
Marcos Alonso form has been a treat
A selection of Chelsea supporters on social media believe that in-form Spaniard Alonso is fully deserving of his individual recognition.
He’s competing against Tottenham’s Eric Dier, Everton’s Demarai Gray, Manchester United’s Mason Greenwood, along with West Ham duo Michal Antonio and Said Benrahma for the prize.
Alonso, 30, has looked a major attacking threat in the last few games for Chelsea. Also, it’s been great to see the £24million full-back really dig in defensively, too.
His defending has always been an area of his game that’s questioned, but he’s one of the best around when it comes to being a specialist left wing-back.
Teammate Ben Chilwell is understandably being made to be patient on the bench.
Tuchel really is fortunate that it looks like he’s got two top-class options within his squad for almost every position.
