‘He’s buzzing again’: Craig Burley thinks 23-year-old Chelsea player has now got his confidence back

Craig Burley thinks that Chelsea’s Mason Mount has got his confidence back.

Mount, 23, has had an underwhelming start to the season by his high standards.

The attacking midfielder has zero goals and one assist in 10 Chelsea appearances this campaign, so there’s been a clear drop off with his output. After all, the England international finished with 29 direct goal contributions last season for the Blues.

Mount has confidence back

ESPN pundit Burley said after Chelsea’s midweek win against AC Milan that Mount did show improvements in his performance, though.

“Mason Mount has got his confidence back. He looks like he’s buzzing again,” Burley told ESPN.

It’s surely a matter of when, not if, Mount regains his best form.

He scored a delightful chipped goal against Milan that was ruled out for an offside, but it was the finish of a confident player. Also, the 23-year-old did look very lively against the Italian champions with his overall involvement.

The fact that Graham Potter has started the Englishman in all three of his games as manager so far does indicate how highly he rates him.

Mount will come through this quiet patch soon enough, and perhaps he can even time his return to form perfectly ahead of the World Cup in November.

If he’s to get back into England’s best XI, he’s got to be playing best in Chelsea colours.

Hailed by Gianfranco Zola recently, Mount has proven in the past couple of years he can be a talisman for this Blues side.

It looks like he’s now got a bit more help in the goal department with new signings Raheem Sterling and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang both chipping in, but there’s no doubt he’ll be desperate to get his season up and running with a goal this weekend against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
