Ben Foster has described Chelsea’s Antonio Rudiger as “nasty” when he lines up on the football pitch.

Rudiger, whose Stamford Bridge exit is now confirmed, will leave at the end of the season when his £100,000-a-week contract expires.

The 29-year-old defender will depart West London in the summer after five seasons.

It’s Spanish giants Real Madrid that are reportedly on the verge of agreeing a deal to sign him on a free transfer, too.

His time with Chelsea will largely be remembered by how superbly he’s performed under the management of Thomas Tuchel, which has seen him drop top-class performances on such a consistent basis.

In addition, he’s a no-nonsense aggressive centre-back that can strike fear into opponents.

Watford goalkeeper Foster, who selected Rudiger in his Premier League Team of the Season, has given an insight into coming up against him.

“He’s got a bit of nous about him; he’s nasty, he’ll kick you; he’ll smile and shake your hand; he’ll help you up… I love Rudiger,” Foster said.

Rudiger takes no prisoners

The way Rudiger’s gone about his work during the past 18 months has been an absolute joy to watch.

He’s been a massive fan favourite at the Bridge because of the way he’s played the game, which is why there’s a lot of disappointment around his imminent exit.

The Germany international is a fully committed defender that takes no prisoners with his tackling and physical battles. Also, he plays with such a high intensity both on and off the ball to lift his teammates.

Let’s just say a massive good luck to whoever tries to step into his shoes at Chelsea.

The Blues are losing a major wind-up merchant that you so often need in top teams.
