Tony Cascarino claims that Chelsea prospect Billy Gilmour hasn’t kicked on as expected this year during his season-long loan with Norwich City.
Gilmour, who’s played 22 first-team games for Chelsea, was sent out on loan this season.
Unfortunately, the 20-year-old midfielder has had a tough time for a Norwich side that have been relegated from the Premier League.
He’s been in and out of the Norwich XI throughout this campaign, with their supporters unable to really connect with the Blues loanee.
There’s no doubting the individual talent of a central midfielder that’s a regular in the Scotland starting line-up, but the rising talent has had a season to forget at Carrow Road.
TalkSPORT pundit Cascarino has been disappointed by Gilmour’s lack of progress since his Stamford Bridge exit on loan.
“The lad Gilmour that came to Norwich, didn’t do particularly well at the club, and the fans turned on him at the start season,” Cascarino told talkSPORT.
“He’s a terrific young footballer but, somehow, he’s not grown.”

Room in Chelsea squad?
It’ll be interesting to see what Chelsea do with Gilmour when he returns for pre-season.
It would be nice to inject some fresh blood to the Blues squad next season in the midfield, as it would help drive competition with some of the senior central midfielders.
There has to be big question marks over whether Gilmour is ready, though.
The Chelsea prospect has just been completely the wrong fit at Norwich, but could perhaps fit into the system at the Bridge easier as the deep-lying midfield playmaker.
It could be argued another loan may be the best step for him in his development. However, this year’s loan isn’t a time to write him off completely.
Jurgen Klopp explained last year how much he admirers big talent Gilmour. Jack Wilshere is another in the football community to give him rave reviews in the past, too.
