Rio Ferdinand suggests that Benoit Badiashile will be seriously angry he’s not played more games during his first few months at Chelsea.
Benoit Badiashile, who’s just 22, joined the Blues back in the January transfer window.
The French defender cost Chelsea £35million (Sky Sports) to sign from Monaco, which is looking like a great investment whenever he steps on the pitch.
However, the left-footed centre-back has played just nine games so far. His biggest blow was when Graham Potter excluded him from the Champions League squad, so he’s been unavailable in European ties.
BT Sport pundit Ferdinand believes that Badiashile will be convinced he should have played more.
“Badiashile is sitting there, a young centre-back who can’t get into the Champions League squad. He’s thinking, ‘I should be playing’. He’s probably sitting there looking at some of the players in front of him and going, ‘Hold on a minute, how have I been overlooked here?'” Ferdinand told BT Sport.
The towering centre-half has looked class in his nine displays, but he’s started just two of the last six Premier League games.
We feel he belongs in the starting line-up from now until the end of the season, though.
Frank Lampard really needs to start picking Badiashile in the games ahead.
The 22-year-old youngster has looked like one of the rare positives signings under this ownership.
It feels like there is a lot more to come from him as he matures and gets more Premier League experience, too.
Micah Richards recently described Badiashile as “one of the brightest young talents” in the sport right now. We’re certainly not going to argue with him when it comes to emerging centre-halves.
If we were picking the Chelsea team from now until the end of the season, French defenders Badiashile and Wesley Fofana would be two of the first names on the team sheet every match.
