One of the long-term members of the infamous ‘bomb squad’ at Chelsea has finally got his career back underway after completing a late transfer away from Stamford Bridge.

Ben Chilwell had not made an appearance for the Blues in over a year, with it clear that he was not in Enzo Maresca’s plans by any means.

Despite Premier League interest from Everton in signing Chilwell, he ended up making a deadline day move to France to join Strasbourg in Ligue 1.

The fellow BlueCo club have Chelsea representation for this season in the form of Mamadou Sarr, Kendry Paez and Mike Penders, as well as upcoming signing Emanuel Emegha.

How Ben Chilwell got on in Strasbourg debut

Chilwell was handed his first start for Liam Rosenior’s side in their league clash against Le Havre, featuring in a left wing-back role.

Strasbourg won 1-0 thanks to a last-minute winner, however this came long after the England international had been replaced.

While Chilwell will have been delighted to get some much-needed gametime under his belt, it was a fairly quiet outing for the defender on his first Ligue 1 appearance.

Chilwell has been named in the Conference League squad for the 2025/26 campaign, meaning he is in line for a return to European football after missing out on the Blues’ winning run last season.

Chelsea’s parting gesture to Chilwell

It looks as if there is no bad blood at all between the Blues and the player, shown by the fact that Chelsea made a settlement with Chilwell in regards to his wages.

His exit brought an end to a five-year spell at Stamford Bridge that was littered with success, most notably the triumph in the Champions League in 2021.

Former Blue Mason Mount was one of those who responded to Chilwell’s heartfelt goodbye to the Blues, with him clearly a popular member of the first team squad.
