Chelsea were very keen on signing Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa over the summer, however were ultimately unsuccessful with their efforts.
It was no doubt an appealing opportunity for the Blues to sign a player who had slipped through the cracks at Manchester City, after reaping the rewards of signing Cole Palmer.
Chelsea prioritised Alejandro Garnacho over Rogers, likely due to the difference in valuation between the two players, and the England international has now signed a new deal with Villa.
However, The Chelsea Chronicle understands that this has not put the Blues off in their interest in signing him, with his decision to stay being heavily influenced by his desire to feature at the 2026 World Cup.

Chelsea still keen on signing Morgan Rogers despite new Aston Villa contract
Transfer insider Graeme Bailey has told us that the attacker is still ‘firmly on Chelsea’s radar’ as a potential option for the future.
He said: “Morgan Rogers has got his new deal. It’s not an issue for Chelsea or any of his suitors – he has got his reward. And I am told regular football and securing his spot in the World Cup squad was and is his priority heading into 2026.
“The new deal does not change much with Rogers and his future, let’s see how the next 12-months pans out. But Villa themselves know that they are going to need a top-four/top-five finish to keep him and their other stars.
“He remains firmly on Chelsea’s radar.”
The Blues ended up spending big money on wingers over the summer, signing Garnacho, Estevao Willian and Jamie Gittens.
However, they have not been afraid to stockpile talent, and also make brutal decisions which occurred with the likes of Noni Madueke over the summer.

Chelsea were frontrunners to sign Rogers
Despite the majority of top sides in England having interest in Rogers, the Blues were seen as one of the favourites to complete a deal.
In fact, sources close to the player said that Chelsea were favourites to bring in Rogers before he signed his new deal.
The England international has started to find his feet again after a tough personal start to the season.
He didn’t score or assist in his first five Premier League games of the season, however now has a goal and two assists to his name in this campaign.
