How Chelsea’s form heading into October’s international break compares to last season

The international break has probably come at the right time for Chelsea, despite Enzo Maresca’s men beating Liverpool last weekend.

While Chelsea were able to defeat the Premier League champions 2-1, their overall form in the top flight right now is not great.

They also have a lot of injuries, with Reece James their latest casualty. On Monday, it was announced that James would miss England’s next two games.

Enzo Maresca will now be hoping that he can get a few players back after this two-week period without club football.

Chelsea struggling compared to last season after one win in four

Since the September international break, Chelsea have played four games in the Premier League, with their win against Liverpool being their only victory.

The other three matches saw the Club World Cup winners draw against Brentford before losing to Manchester United and Brighton & Hove Albion.

It is a stark contrast to their form this time last year when they picked up three wins out of four. It had them sitting fourth in the Premier League table.

To the present, and Maresca’s men find themselves seventh in the league standings.

Despite all of the injuries and red cards that they have been picking up, David James still thinks Chelsea can challenge for the title. However, he has claimed that the Blues must stop getting players sent off for that to happen.

Chelsea’s next four games before November international break

After the October international break finishes, Chelsea first take on Nottingham Forest, a game that they should be winning.

Forest are really struggling under new boss Ange Postecoglou, who is yet to win a game in charge since replacing Nuno Espirito Santo in the City Ground dugout.

The Conference League holders then play Sunderland, London rivals Tottenham Hotspur and Wolverhampton Wanderers before November’s round of international fixtures.
