Micah Richards has been left really impressed by the performance of one player Chelsea recently sold after he played in the Champions League.

He told ‘The Rest is Football’ that he was wowed by the display of Fikayo Tomori, saying he showed why he deserves to be at the top level.

Tomori was part of the AC Milan side who secured their place in the Europa League at the expense of Newcastle on Wednesday.

This came from a brilliant 2-1 win at St. James’ Park, where fellow former Blue Christian Pulisic was on target.

At the other end of the pitch though, the England centre-back made a quite brilliant goal line clearance to deny Miguel Almiron and stop his side going behind earlier.

Richards has now claimed that when looking at fellow players in his position for his country, he struggles to see many better available right now than Tomori.

Tomori wows Richards

He said: “What about Tomori? How good was Tomori? His goal line clearance, commanding of the box, his late run when he hit the post. I was looking at English centre halves and I don’t think we are blessed in that position.

“And I don’t want to get too excited after one game but that performance on a European stage shows he has the courage and when he at his best he can definitely play at this level.”

Tomori’s time at Chelsea was looking really positive under the tenure of Frank Lampard, however his playing time seemed to come to a pretty swift end.

The current options at the club are extremely positive at the back, if they can stay fit.

Levi Colwill, Benoit Badiashile and Wesley Fofana present great options for both the present and the future, with the likes of Thiago Silva and Axel Disasi still thrown in there for the time being too.
