How Jadon Sancho and Nico Williams compare this season as David Ornstein shares Chelsea transfer update

Jadon Sancho has been Chelsea’s main option out on the left this season following his arrival from Manchester United.

With Mykhailo Mudryk currently unavailable, Jadon Sancho does not have too much competition there either.

However, that could change this month amid speculation that Chelsea are interested in signing Nico Williams of Athletic Bilbao, though a move in the summer seems more likely.

How, though, do Sancho and Williams compare? The Chelsea Chronicle takes a look.

Jadon Sancho and Nico Williams have very similar numbers this season

According to The Athletic‘s David Ornstein, while a January transfer may prove difficult, Chelsea are high among Williams many suitors.

It is not hard to see why the Blues would be interested in the 22-year-old, as he can be quite a tricky and creative wide man.

For example, Williams is currently making 1.8 key passes and completing 2.2 dribbles per league game this season.

In comparison, Sancho is making 1.3 key passes and completing 2.1 dribbles, so he is not far away from the Spain international in those areas.

Sancho, however, has scored one more goal than Williams, while he also has one more assist. The 24-year-old has played fewer games and minutes than his Athletic counterpart as well.

If you are going off this season alone, then, you can argue that Williams would not be an upgrade on Sancho. Still, Chelsea have had Williams on their radar for a while now, so you would not be surprised to see them make a move for him this year.

Chelsea should still sign Nico Williams

If there is a chance to sign Williams, then Chelsea should still take it, despite Sancho’s impact at Stamford Bridge this season.

No one knows what is going to happen with Mudryk, while Williams has shown in Spain that he possesses the traits of a talented wide man.

Enzo Maresca needs quality wide options, especially if Chelsea make a return to the Champions League next term. Sancho and Williams can both be just that.
