Chelsea defender Reece James and England have booked their place in the World Cup semi-finals after beating Norway 2-1 on Saturday.
It was Norway who managed to go in front after Andreas Schjelder’s opener in the 36th minute. Their lead did not last for long, though, with Jude Bellingham equalising on the stroke of half-time before scoring the winner in extra time to send the Three Lions to the World Cup semi-finals.
James started on the bench, having just recovered from a hamstring injury, but the Chelsea full-back managed to make an impact when he came on in the second half.
How do you feel about Reece James playing for England so soon after injury?
Chelsea star Reece James impressed English media in Norway win
It is fair to say that the English media were very pleased with James’ cameo against Norway.
The Independent gave James a match rating of seven. In their player ratings piece, they said: “Was as dependable as ever after coming on, whether asked to play in midfield or at full-back. Dealt well with the threat offered by Antonio Nusa.”
Sky Sports handed the right-back a six. They posted: “Came on in midfield to help balance a midfield being over-run by Norway. It helped a little but was then moved to right-back. Just over an hour in the tank is positive news ahead of the latter stages of the tournament. Him staying fit eases a lot of defensive woes for England.”

Just as The Independent did, The Sun also gave James a seven. The 26-year-old and England will now face Argentina next Wednesday as they look to make their first World Cup final since 1966.
With James fit again, Tuchel is very likely to start the Chelsea academy product, who is the Three Lions’ first-choice right-back.
Chelsea fans will feel that Tuchel is risking James and not giving him enough time to fully recover, but that is not something that the German has at this tournament.
Reece James’ defensive stats vs Norway
Statistically, James did play well after coming on in the 71st minute. According to Sofascore, the England international made three clearances, blocked one shot and attempted two tackles, winning one of them.
He definitely made an impact, and Tuchel will now be hoping for more of the same against Argentina.
There is no doubt that when James is fit, he is easily one of the best players in this England team.
