‘I am convinced’: Club president is certain player who left Chelsea this summer will become one of the greats

Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo thinks former Chelsea player Joao Felix can become a great in European football.

The attacker did not have the best time during his loan spell at Stamford Bridge last season, but Cerezo is backing him to revive his career at Barcelona.

“Let him show everyone his talents,” the Atletico president was quoted as saying by Mundo Deportivo. “He can become one of the greats in Europe in the next two years. I am convinced that he will do it at Barcelona, but I have to remind that he is still an Atletico Madrid player.”

Felix scored just four goals in 16 Premier League appearances last season as Chelsea went on to finish in 12th.

Joao Felix showed promise at Chelsea

Chelsea supporters probably did not see the best of Felix during his short time at Stamford Bridge, but the Portugal international certainly did show glimpses of his quality.

His well-taken goal against West Ham United after his suspension is just one example.

Felix is still just 23 years of age as well, so he has more than enough time to fulfil his potential.

It will not happen at Chelsea, though, and there is no guarantee that he will develop into a truly devastating forward at Barcelona either.

The former Benfica man is only at the Spotify Camp Nou on loan. If he does not perform, then he faces a return to Atletico.

As for Chelsea, in the end, their Felix experiment did not quite work out. They now have Christopher Nkunku to play in that position just behind the striker, though he is currently out injured.

However, when the Frenchman returns, hopefully he can do what Felix could not during his time in west London: win Chelsea games.
