‘I am nobody here’: £32m Chelsea player rejects comparisons to club legend

Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson does not want to be compared to club legend Didier Drogba just yet.

Nicolas Jackson is currently wearing the No.15 shirt as Drogba did in his first season at Stamford Bridge and plays up front like the Ivorian during his career, but the 22-year-old thinks it is way too early for comparisons.

Speaking to Chelsea’s official website, he said: “Drogba is a legend; I am nobody here. I’ve just started, so let’s wait. When I finish with football, then people can talk.”

Chelsea will be desperate for Jackson to develop into a striker as prolific as Drogba was.

Goals have been a problem for the Blues in recent seasons, with the club scoring just four in the Premier League so far this term.

Long way to go before Nicolas Jackson can be compared to Didier Drogba

Jackson is right to downplay the Drogba comparisons. There are obviously areas of his game he needs to improve to reach the level of the Ivory Coast legend, while he is right to acknowledge that he has not achieved anything in blue just yet.

Refining his finishing will be at the top of his to-do list, with the £32m Senegal international not being clinical enough since joining Chelsea.

Jackson has scored just one goal in four Premier League games and missed a very easy opportunity in his side’s 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest before the international break.

The former Villarreal man is still just 22 years of age, though. He has time to improve his finishing and become more clinical. And working under a coach as good as Mauricio Pochettino, maybe he will get there and eventually justify those Drogba comparisons.
