Lianne Sanderson has expressed her surprise at Moises Caicedo deciding to join Chelsea this summer, insisting that there is no stability at Stamford Bridge.

Sanderson was speaking on talkSPORT about some of the business the Blues have done since Todd Boehly arrived, which has certainly attracted a lot of attention over the last year or so.

Moises Caicedo became the latest to sign for Chelsea earlier this month. As reported by Sky Sports, Brighton have received a fee of £115 million for the 21-year-old.

Meanwhile, Chelsea have handed the midfielder an eight-year contract. Remarkably, there is also a one-year option.

The longer contracts have given the club more freedom in the transfer market. But obviously, the plan did not reap rewards last season as we endured an absolutely miserable campaign.

With that, Sanderson has hit out at the youngster for deciding to make the move to Chelsea – insisting that there is little incentive to pick the club over another Premier League heavyweight.

“There’s no stability at that club. And that’s why I am surprised that Caicedo went to Chelsea,” she told talkSPORT.

“People were saying, ‘oh, it’s his dream club’. He tagged Arsenal as his dream club about six months ago on Instagram. So great, fantastic story, and I think he’s a fantastic signing. But if I was a player, I wouldn’t sign for Chelsea right now.”

There is cautious optimism that Chelsea are going to start turning the corner in the near future. Appointing Mauricio Pochettino was a real statement of intent.

And the club did sign a lot of quality players last season. However, the balance of the squad was just completely off.

The signings made in this window appear to have gone some way to addressing that situation. And the Blues now look to be in a much better position to kick on and put last year behind them.

And the Chelsea hierarchy will be confident that Caicedo will be vindicated for choosing to already commit what could be the peak years of his career to the club.
