‘I am watching’… Jamie O’Hara gives his honest thoughts on Chelsea after watching them in pre-season

Purely taking results into consideration, it has not been a particularly convincing start to life for Chelsea in pre-season this summer.

They followed a 2-2 draw with Wrexham with a damning 4-1 defeat to Celtic at the weekend that exposed a number of their weaknesses at the moment.

The Blues are clearly still getting used to the style of football brought in by Enzo Maresca.

Jamie O’Hara concerned about Chelsea after pre-season

This has seen a number of players feature in unfamiliar roles. Ben Chilwell even played as a centre-back in his only appearance of the summer so far.

While the common mantra of trust the process has been going around, it seems not everyone is as patient or convinced at this stage. Jamie O’Hara told TalkSPORT that he is concerned about their prospects this season.

He said: “At the moment, I am watching them, looking at the pre-season, the situation that they have got, I think Chelsea are going to struggle. I do.

“I am looking at Enzo Maresca. Straightaway he said about his style, this is how he wants to do it, this is how he wants to play. We know in the Premier League you have got to be adaptable, things change, you come up against better teams.”

Chelsea are in for some bigger tests this summer before their season opener against Manchester City. They will face the same opposition in a couple of weeks’ time.

These games will give supporters a better idea of where their club are at ahead of the return of the Premier League.

The manager will be buoyed by the return of some of his more important players in the coming weeks.

Cole Palmer is one of the players who is not actually going to fly out to the United States after his extended break off the back of a deep run at the European Championships.

The England international is reportedly being earmarked for a more central position than last season.
