Saul Niguez described himself as an all-rounded midfielder during his first official declaration as a Chelsea player.
In his maiden interview with the club, Saul was able to speak to his new supporters properly since his switch from Atletico Madrid on deadline day.
He covered the standard topics: what it’s like to be here, how excited are you, who do you already know within the squad?

But the Spaniard was also asked how he would label himself as a player, or more specifically, a midfielder.
“I am a team player. I always play for the team. I could define myself as box-to-box midfield,” said the 26-year-old.
“I like joining the attack and score goals but also defending when needed.
“I think it’s really important for me in order to feel comfortable in the pitch and to deliver for Chelsea.”

Saul speaks
Clearly, Saul sees himself as a central contributor, rather than the numerous other roles he has played for Atletico.
Diego Simeone deployed him at left-wing back twice this season, a theme that carried on from the previous campaign.
His talents were somewhat wasted out wide, which is why he has made the point of playing further infield.
Reportedly, Chelsea ‘promised’ to at least train him as a central midfielder ahead of his last-minute transfer.
And Thomas Tuchel could certainly do with some extra coverage in that position, due to the update on N’Golo Kante’s fitness.

The Frenchman was forced to miss out on his national side’s opening World Cup qualifying fixture due to an ankle injury.
This exact problem ended his afternoon early against Liverpool last weekend.
Depending on the extent of Kante’s damages, Saul might be getting his central midfielder wish sooner rather than later.
