Edouard Mendy revealed his shock at being invited to join Chelsea by Petr Cech.
During a Q&A on the 5th Stand App, Mendy was asked about Cech’s influence on his career.
So many goalkeepers throughout time have probably used the Stamford Bridge idol as inspiration for their own development.
His iconic look matched the moves he constantly pulled off between the sticks.

Cech comfortably holds the record for most clean sheets in Premier League history and is sixth on the all-time appearance list for Chelsea.
A four-time league title winner, with numerous other accolades under his belt, few have achieved anything close to the former Czech international.
Magic Mendy moulded by Cech
Mendy is making a decent attempt at following in the footsteps of his mentor.
The 29-year-old was signed from Rennes for £22m (BBC) by Frank Lampard in 2020, the same club Cech exchanged nearly two decades ago.
Since that switch across the channel, the Senegalese has won the Champions League, Super Cup and Club World Cup, the latter two trophies his predecessor failed to win.
UEFA also named Chelsea’s current number one their Goalkeeper of the Year, following his performances in last season’s competition.

However, none of this might’ve happened had Mendy not picked up the phone whilst he was still playing in France.
“He’s been massive for me. I couldn’t believe it when he called me, because for me he is a legend,” said the gloved guardian on Cech.
“He is one of the best goalkeepers in history and I’m lucky to train with him and see how he works up close every single day.
“He gives me such good advice to be a better goalkeeper and how to play my part for the team.”

Having looked up to him throughout his journey through the sport, it must be a dream come true for Mendy to work directly alongside Cech.
Himself, Kepa Arrizabalaga and Marcus Bettinelli have surely improved considerably due to the presence of Chelsea’s great protector.
Petr would probably still do a decent job in goal even now!
