‘I didn’t know’… 22-year-old Chelsea player now admits he didn’t realise how big Tottenham fixture was

Chelsea’s fierce rivalry with Tottenham Hotspur seems to have taken one of the club’s recent signings by surprise.

Chelsea take on Tottenham at Stamford Bridge tomorrow, with Ange Postecoglou’s men looking for revenge.

Their last encounter was a real fiery one, even for a London derby, with Spurs having two players sent off on the night.

Nicolas Jackson was one of Chelsea’s new signings who played and he ended up punishing Tottenham.

The striker scored a hat-trick as Mauricio Pochettino‘s side went on to win 4-1.

Chelsea star did not realise how significant Tottenham fixture was

Jackson has been speaking about that hat-trick and the London derby against Tottenham, admitting that he did not know it was that big of a game.

“I was still quite new and I didn’t know until I scored the hat-trick how important it was for the club,” the 22-year-old was quoted as saying by Chelsea’s official website. “It was a big, big derby and I was very happy. Every time I sleep it’s in my head, the hat-trick. So good memories in their stadium.

“I hope we create the same memories in our stadium. We are going to fight because London derbies are not easy. Last week we lost one and we don’t want that to happen again. So we’re going to fight as a team, fight for the club, and it’s a derby that is very important for the club and the players.

“We are going to fight for it. We will try to do it as a team, one family, and try to make the supporters happy.”

Why Tottenham is also a big game for Nicolas Jackson

Jackson has not been in the best of form in Chelsea’s last few fixtures.

The Senegal international was not terrible against Aston Villa, but he really wasted some great chances in games with Arsenal and Manchester City before that.

Given Chelsea’s bad blood with Tottenham, though, Jackson can quickly get supporters off his back with a goal or two against Postecoglou’s team.

He has already accomplished that this term, so there is no reason why he cannot score against Spurs tomorrow.

And with the former Villarreal man being the only recognised centre-forward in Pochettino’s squad, he is surely going to get the chance to. While he leads the line, you would expect Cole Palmer, Noni Madueke and possibly Raheem Sterling to start just behind him.
