Paul Merson claims Chelsea’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang offered very little besides his goal in the weekend’s win against Crystal Palace.
The Blues edged out London rivals Palace 2-1 in the Premier League meeting at Selhurst Park, with Conor Gallagher scoring a late winner with a “brilliant finish” from outside the box.
Despite going behind in the contest, Aubameyang netted his first goal in Chelsea colours to lead the Blues recovery.
The 33-year-old centre-forward rifled a clinical low shot into the corner after an instinctive turn to create space.

Aubameyang offered very little
Sky Sports pundit Merson was really impressed by the Chelsea striker’s first goal of the season, but did want to highlight he didn’t see much else from him in the game.
“I didn’t think Aubameyang brought too much to the table apart from the goal, but it was a really good, good goal, and that’s what he does offer you. He knows where the goal is, he swivels and puts it in the corner and it’s a proper finish,” Merson told Sky Sports.
Aubameyang, who played 75 minutes against Palace, had just 23 passes in total.
However, Chelsea fans aren’t going to worry about him too much if he shows the killer instincts in front of goal that have been missing in their side during recent seasons.
It feels like the experienced attacker is still getting up to full speed, but his natural finishing is something that the top players don’t lose.

Armando Broja, 21, should be studying closely his teammate when it comes to finishing.
There’s a lot of excitement in the fanbase about what centre-forward Broja can bring to the Chelsea line-up with his energy, speed and enthusiasm.
However, to really elevate his game to the next level he’ll need to master the craft of finishing, something Aubameyang can definitely help with.
There’s actually a lot to like about having the two types of forwards available to Graham Potter, who is going to need both during the course of a hectic October schedule. Up next, Chelsea host AC Milan tomorrow night in an important Champions League group stage match.
