‘I haven’t’: 23-year-old Chelsea player says he’s never drunk beer before or even been to a pub

Chelsea’s Mason Mount has admitted that he’s never had a pint of beer before or even been to a pub.

However, the 23-year-old vows to change that if he can win the World Cup with England this winter.

Three Lions manager Gareth Southgate officially names his 26-man squad this afternoon for the World Cup in Qatar.

Mount, along with club teammate Raheem Sterling, is among a group of players that everyone would assume are dead certs to be in the final England squad.

Southgate’s men kick off their World Cup tournament against Iran on 21 November before following up with group games against United States and Wales.

Mount has never had a pint

Mount has confessed he’s never drank a pint before:

“I’ve never been in a proper English pub I don’t think. Maybe once in a hotel bar or something to watch football, but not to have a drink. Of course, I haven’t drunk a pint. No. I’ll join Declan [Rice] in drinking a pint if England win the World Cup – we can do it in a pub!” Mount said.

Last year, England teammate and close friend Declan Rice admitted he’d never drank a pint.

England supporters will pray the duo can both end that streak by winning the World Cup for their country this winter.

In fairness, it shouldn’t be a great surprise given how much more professional and strict the sport is compared to a couple of decades ago.

Mount, who’s the ultimate professional on and off the pitch, will hope he can play a pivotal role for England this summer.

He actually lost his starting position in the recent international break, but responded as all great players do, scoring a goal off the bench against Germany.

The attacking midfielder definitely has the individual ability to shine for Southgate’s team, but will he be starting the first match against Iran?

Chelsea will hope he can sign off before the World Cup break with a big performance this Saturday for an important Premier League fixture away to Newcastle United.
