Baba Rahman says he conversed with Chelsea colleague Callum Hudson-Odoi in pre-season about changing his international allegiance.
Speaking to Nizaar Kinsella, Rahman opened the lid slightly on the chat had he with Hudson-Odoi in regards to potentially representing Ghana instead of England.
Hudson-Odoi is still yet to make a decision over whether to commit to the Three Lions or the Black Stars.
The 22-year-old was born in London and already has three senior England caps to his name.
However, he is still eligible to play for through his parents, plus having earned those trio of England appearances before his 21st birthday.
Although the attacker has enjoyed a productive loan spell at Bayer Leverkusen this season, it is unlikely Gareth Southgate will call him up in the near-future.
Yet, it appears the Chelsea academy graduate is still hopeful of getting the nod from Southgate.
He reportedly turned down the chance to head off to the World Cup in Qatar to instead focus on his club football and to keep the England avenue open.
Should Hudson-Odoi head to Ghana?
There might not be a better chance for Hudson-Odoi to appear at a major tournament.
Instead, he must watch on as his honorary Ghanian comrades attempt to tackle the world’s best.
Rahman will be present in Qatar, thanks to two decent spells on loan from Chelsea at Reading.
Whilst the Ghana squad is still strong, the defender admitted Hudson-Odoi’s addition would’ve strengthened them further.
“I spoke to him in pre-season and it was just a little chat about it,” said the full-back about Hudson-Odoi’s international dilemma.
“At the moment he was still making up his decision and he wasn’t fully sure of what was going.
“When I spoke to him it was a nice and friendly conversation.
“I hope he can make it because he’s a good guy because I’ve known him for a long time. His quality also would be a good addition for Ghana.”
