‘I hope so’: ESPN pundit says he’s really hoping that 24-year-old star signs for Chelsea soon

ESPN FC pundit Janusz Michallik hopes Chelsea sign Napoli striker Victor Osimhen.

Victor Osimhen has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge and Michallik, speaking on ESPN, says the Blues will have no more excuses if they manage to land the 24-year-old.

According to 90min, Chelsea are keeping a close eye on him as they look to bolster their options up front.

Armando Broja was able to score in the Blues’ 2-0 win against Fulham on Monday, but goals have been a problem for Mauricio Pochettino’s side this season.

Broja’s strike was just Chelsea’s seventh in the Premier League.

No excuses

Michallik thinks there will be nowhere left for Chelsea to hide if they sign Osimhen but still continue to struggle.

Discussing the possibility of the Blues bringing in the Nigerian in January, the former USA international said: “I hope so. I hope so. I hope they get him because there’ll be absolutely zero excuse, right?

“I mean, up until this point you can say all the players that they’ve bought, young or old, scoring goals is still an issue for them.”

Make or break

Chelsea’s next big forward signing really could define which direction the club are heading in.

Right now, Osimhen is one of the best No.9s in the game. Last season, he scored 26 goals in Serie A and five in the Champions League, which is impressive.

If Chelsea are still swimming around mid-table with that calibre of forward, then they really will look doomed.

And given Romelu Lukaku’s struggles, another very good striker, it is not impossible.

But if the Blues do go on to sign Osimhen in January or next summer, hopefully his career at Stamford Bridge turns out much differently and the Nigeria international can bring back the good times.
