Chelsea youngster Mason Burstow says the Blues refused to sell him in the last transfer window.

Mason Burstow is currently on loan at Sunderland and while the striker has stated that there was interest in buying him over the summer, he told The Northern Echo that his parent club were unwilling to let him go permanently.

The 20-year-old has started four Championship games for Sunderland so far this season so is getting game time right now.

He is still waiting to open up his account in a red and white shirt, though.

Chelsea did not want to sell Mason Burstow

Burstow has confirmed that Sunderland initially wanted to buy him during the summer transfer window, but he was not someone who Chelsea wanted to get rid of permanently.

On the interest shown in him from the Black Cats, the young forward said: “I knew there was interest at the start of the window. It was mainly to buy me, but then Chelsea weren’t having it, and obviously I was part of things at Chelsea, being on the bench a few times and coming on.”

Future at Chelsea

Chelsea obviously see Burstow as someone who could have a role in the senior squad in the future.

If the English youngster has a good loan at Sunderland, perhaps it will give Mauricio Pochettino something to think about. Who knows?

The Argentine used him a few times in the Premier League before his loan to Sunderland, so there must be something that he likes about him.

Nevertheless, spending time somewhere else where he is likely to get regular minutes is probably the best thing for Burstow.

Sunderland take on Watford in the Championship next, where Burstow will be looking to score his first goal for the Black Cats.
