‘I see it every day’: Tuchel says Chelsea player’s performances in training have improved so much recently

Thomas Tuchel has shared that Chelsea player Saul Niguez is starting to look “freer” in training sessions.

Saul, 27, suffered a turbulent start to his Blues career this season after joining on a season-long loan from Atletico Madrid.

However, the left-footed midfielder delivered another encouraging display on Wednesday night as he begins to build some real momentum.

He looked controlled in the centre of the park yesterday during Chelsea’s 2-0 home win against Tottenham in the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg. Even Spurs captain Hugo Lloris was left raving about the Blues following the one-sided contest.

Tuchel was full of praise in his post-match press conference of Saul, who came off after 73 minutes to a great reception from the Stamford Bridge crowd.

“He is happier and freer in training, I see it every day,” Tuchel said.

“He played better when he came on against Wolverhampton, he already had a good impact so he is stepping up and stepping out.

“I was so happy when I saw him on the sideline for the second goal in the 2-2 draw with Liverpool, he was totally committed and it was very impressive to see him like this.”

Chelsea midfield grows stronger

It’s hard to think of another team out there that possesses so much ability in the centre of the park.

The Blues have three genuinely top-class midfield options in N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic and Jorginho.

If Saul regains his form to near his best, you’re looking at another brilliant midfielder.

Saul’s still a long way off the player that used to boss games for Spanish giants Atletico, but there are really positive signs with the way he’s been performing in the last few matches.

He made seven tackles, three interceptions and two key passes in the match against Spurs (Who Scored).
