‘I think’: TalkSPORT pundit says Chelsea can have a really good season if their 23-year-old player kicks on

Tony Cascarino claims that Chelsea could be in store for an exciting 2022/23 season if Kai Havertz kicks on his game.

Chelsea attacker Havertz, 23, may end up having big pressure on his shoulders going into the new campaign.

With Romelu Lukaku exiting Stamford Bridge on loan, and the Blues yet to sign a new centre-forward this summer, it means the options in the No.9 role look a little bare.

Versatile attacker Havertz is someone that did play in a central role at times last season, so is he in line to start the season as the first-choice striker? Alternatively, Timo Werner or Raheem Sterling could play through the middle if needed.

The Blues do have exciting 20-year-old forward Armando Broja in their ranks, too. Incidentally, West Ham have reportedly made a bid to try sign him.

Havertz kicks on

TalkSPORT pundit Cascarino thinks Chelsea require a big individual season from left-footed ace Havertz.

He impressed at times last season in the starting line-up, scoring 14 goals across all competitions. However, it’ll be a different kind of pressure if he goes into this year as the main frontline option.

“What does he (Thomas Tuchel) do with Kai Havertz? Havertz did okay last year, room for improvement,” Cascarino told talkSPORT.

“If he progresses again, because by the end of the season he was looking decent, is he going to be the guy that fits that role of where Lukaku played? They don’t need a traditional number nine the way they play.

“If Havertz kicks on, I think it could be a really good year again for Chelsea. I don’t think that’s a guarantee.”

Yes, Havertz is one player that may be going under the radar going into the new Premier League season.

The Germany international is blessed with so much individual ability when the ball is at his feet. Also, he does back that up well with energy, aggression and intelligence.

It’s time for him to try become a 20-goal attacker and be a driving force in Chelsea’s attack.

There’s been some magical moments during his opening two years at Stamford Bridge, but his third season is now a time to really judge the £71million man.

For the record, there ae plenty of other teammates of his that could do with raising their bar to try close the gap to the Premier League’s top two.
