Hakim Ziyech named Thiago Silva and Cesar Azpilicueta as the Chelsea stars most likely to become coaches after retirement, speaking to Chelsea Unscripted.
Plenty of players have turned to management following a spell with the Blues.
Gianluca Vialli, Ruud Guilt, Roberto Di Matteo, Gianfranco Zola, John Terry and Frank Lampard. Just some of the names that have swapped the Stamford Bridge pitch with the touchline.
Some have been more successful than others, but all made that leap from dressing room to dugout after featuring for Chelsea.
Ziyech give his opinion who would be the next Blues members to follow in these footsteps.
He said: “I think I would go for Thiago. He’s one of the most experienced. Thiago or maybe Azpi. It’s one of the two.”
This answer probably wouldn’t surprise anyone associated with the club.
Azpilicueta and Silva are two of Chelsea’s senior squad figures, having played at the very highest level for longer than many of their teammates have been senior pros.
Both have captained the Blues this season and are natural leaders, a required skill in becoming a manager.
At 36-years of age, Silva’s incredible career is slowly coming to a close, with Azpilicueta not too far behind him.
They might have one eye on their next move after hanging up their boots. Strolling up and down the sidelines seems like a sensible solution.
