Journalist Bobby Vincent has claimed that Chelsea defender Benoit Badiashile is now back in the gym to step up his recovery from a serious hamstring injury.

He took to Twitter to state that rehab is underway for the 22-year-old as he looks to be close to the team when next season comes back around.

Badiashile joined in January as one of the many big money signings made by the Blues. He joined with very little fanfare for a fee of £35m.

However, he has proven to be a very strong defender whenever he has featured. If anything, many are wondering why he hasn’t been playing more in his first campaign in England.

He wasn’t included in the squad that were eligible to compete in the knockout stages of the Champions League, and that can perhaps be the reason why both Graham Potter and Frank Lampard looked elsewhere for their options at the back.

The Frenchman scored his first goal for the club in the 3-1 win over Bournemouth last season, however that was one of the last games he played of the season.

He suffered a serious injury in training late in the campaign, with that creating the risk he may not even be back for the start of next season.

Vincent has now claimed though that Badiashile is already back in the gym to recover.

He said: “Understand he has recently returned to the gym to step up his recovery. 22yo suffered a hamstring injury towards the end of last season.”

It will be interesting to see if he even does walk back into the starting 11 at Stamford Bridge, with Levi Colwill preparing for his first season as a Chelsea first team player.
