Chelsea’s Kenedy has told SportBuzz that he wished he had stayed at Flamengo longer last season.

The 26-year-old spent the first half of the campaign on loan to the Brazlian side, where they enjoyed plenty of success working together.

They reached the Copa Libertadores final in December, with the winger seemingly starting to finally excel with regular minutes.

However, his time back in his home country was cut short after the Blues recalled him from loan, following the season-ending injury suffered by Ben Chilwell.

The full-back’s absence left Marcos Alonso the only natural left sided defender in the first team, and Kenedy was seemingly required as cover.

However, he only made one league appearance, on the final day of the season, seemingly leave him unhappy that he was called back to Stamford Bridge.

He said: “I was sad to have left earlier than expected. I would have liked to stay longer, but it was not as I dreamed. I hope one day to return and everything will be different.

“I played half a season in each team, so I didn’t have many opportunities. There’s no way to evaluate my season, but my goal as a professional is always to surpass myself more and more, we always want to enter the pitch to win.”

The Brazilian is currently without a squad number ahead of this season at Chelsea, and his future looks unlikely to be solved in the coming weeks given the reported lack of interest in him.

Overall, it seems Kenedy was in an unfortunate position last season, with Thomas Tuchel choosing the likes of Saul Niguez and Callum Hudson-Odoi to feature at left-wing-back when Alonso was rested.

He will be hopeful he can achieve a move in the final weeks of the window, with him seemingly about to enter the prime years of his career.
